Recreating the scene of Simon’s death in Lord of the Flies

Lord of the Flies is a well-known novel, written by William Goldings. It illustrated the bunch of British boys accidentally stranded on a desert island, during the time of being trapped, the author shows the most intriguing side of human beings. Which is dark, wild, ad savagery. Simon, one of the kindest and smartest boy among all, was mistakenly being thought as the imaginary beast. And was tragically being killed by the boys, this action has being known as a representation of the evil side of human.

Simon’s death appeared in Chapter 9- A view of death within the novel. Simon unfortunately has became the victim during the part where the boys lost their mind and control, eventually descend into savagery of human nature.

Characters within the novel that is included in this incident are Jack, Ralph, Piggy, Eric, and Sam. There’s also some littluns involved, but due to less existence, they aren’t included within the recreation.

As I stated above, to provide a clearer description of the scene in the story. After founding out that the beast they claimed was a dead parachutist hanging on a tree, Simon ran down the hill in order to tell others about the truth. He accidentally got trapped in a circle of boys, who was chanting “Kill the beast, cut his throat, spill his blood.” They have mistake him for the imaginary beast they are afraid of, since there’s no such thing. Due to panic, they rush at him, hit him with their hands or simple weapons. Thus, I chose to recreate the scene of Simon’s death. Looking at my video. At first, we could the boys in a circle, moving their hands up and down continually while repeatedly saying the chant. Later, Simon walks into the camera, warning the boys about the parachutist. They boys reacted with shock and fear, shouting out some British slangs. Jack led the group to rise up and hit Simon with fists in both hands. Afterwards, Simon who was originally stand up, appeared dead on the ground.

Simon’s death in the novel is a crucial part that shows the boys have became completely wild and losing their innocence. It issued as a a turning point where rules broke down and savagery took over. The scene convey the dark side of human nature and how quickly people can descend into evil when civilization don’t exist. Thus it emphasizes a theme, which is the rise of savagery and the fall of civilization, contributed a important part in the story.

Though I’ve already done with my midterm exam, which consisted the understanding of Lord of the Flies, I still feel it was a great opportunity to enhance my acknowledgement of it, and deepen my comprehension of its theme, allegory, and representation. This project taught me to improve my skills in storytelling and edit skill, especially when it comes to digital. I’ve learned about moving joints of each characters, I tried plenty times till I got it right, which is sometimes quite irritating. Nevertheless, I still really enjoy this experience, I gradually become more familiar with the features, tools, scene setting, and environmental effects in order to make a great animation.

In conclusion, recreating Simon’s death in Alice 3 helped me improved my skills in digital animation, while also giving me a deeper understanding of the novel’s themes and allegory. Connecting both literature and computer science together, expanded my cognition to all.

Remember those astonishing movements cartoon characters do all at the same time? We might think it’s unbelievable when we were childrens, however, as I gradually enhanced my learning about Alice 3, I’ve acknowledged that those gestures which ensemble at once are called synchronized dance. In Alice 3, characters move together in perfect harmony, they would perform several difficult movements with precision, oo course, creating such a mesmerizing fantastic performance. Behind the back of the result, the dance required high level of techniques, in order them to be seamlessly synchronized.

To form your own well-organized dance, it demands a correct procedures and detailed inheritance.

Procedures- Procedure is quite a crucial factor, since it controls each characters movements, ensuring that they all move in harmony. Providing a clear structure and sequence of movements, allowing characters to preceed their assigned actions precisely. This would prevents and reduces mistakes.
Inheritance- Inheritance, from its definition, it’s like passing down traits from a parent to a child. It basically reuse the original codes and demands to form a brand new code, making development easier and faster. Inheriting from a parent function, a child could use their parent’s features while adding their own.

So, we continued on our Alice 3 progress, and guess what I learned this time?! Recently, I literall dived into the world of Alice 3, I’ve always had a dream to become a animation film director, and now I finally have the chance turn it to reality. Recalling that when I wasn’t that busy with academic schoolworks and etc. I often used my free time to create Disney extended sequels. Steps ans steps, I have already finished several of my creations, with clear and vigorous dialogue and conversation within. Now, it’s at last my time to make it in actions. In order to truly experince it, learning how to make the characters move, resize, change color, transparency; and last but not least, controling camera are the essential basics. Alice 3 was such a fantastic educational app, that makes learning more fun and interesting, especially to me, of course.

Character moving- Ever since I began with this, I’ve notice how exact coordinates and directions are so important contributing to an animation film. Exact locations ensures characters move naturally, without careful attention to these details, animation can appear awkward and weird to viewers.
Resize- I believe one of the crucial lesson about animation is to balance the size of each character, adjusting sizes by typing different values help improves the connections within the overall animation.
Transparency- It’s a well known effect for fantasy, adventure and creepy stories. It was super cool to see how transparency can create effects like ghosting or invisibility, and I learned how it’s important support your result with special effects, thus, making it more vivid.
Shortage on time- Although this is a very creative lesson, I feel that teachers don’t need to be in a rush, to complete a class assignment within one class. Plus, with the tight paceof schedule, my friends and I often had no idea what to do next and had to ask each other for help, so I think this is something that the teacher could improve.
Sequence discision- This is another difficulty due the short amount of time was the sequence of directions. Sometimes, when the video was played way too fast, it caused some arrangement problems that made me confused. But with some help of friends, things were generally good and acceptable.

In today’s computer science class, I have experienced a 180 degree flip toward my opinion about compute information processing, which is another term for computer system. So, here was what happened today, our teacher have introduced us a Javascript programming app, called Alice 3. Before I acknowledged about this app, I always thought that computer programming was a super boring thing, but after meeting this app, I discovered that when I can create my favorite stories on a computer or device, the computer class become way more interesting and fun. In my opinion, it’s a splendid tool, it not only teach about some interesting programming skills and concepts, but also strengthed our critical thinking and problem solving.

Below are the three Alice 3 had taught me

Using the Bridge Designer app can assist several distinct purposes. Here, in the project which we are currently working on, it mainly serves as a simulation. It’s a learning tool for students that can related to the real world by providing plenty experiences in structual engineering, connected properties, and the bridge principles. Bridge Designer also form and creates some reality interferes, users, or in this case students need to be 100 percent aware about those problems. In order to deepen their understanding to how different factors can impact the final bridge result. It created knowledgable contents that is not limited to reality, but can be experience online. In this project, we mainly use the above advantages of this app to expertise, encounter and learn more about various engineering skills and understanding.

West Point Bridge Designer 2014 Tutorial - YouTube

I believe there’s a popular trend quote: “You get what you pay for”. Whatever kind of materials you choose, in this case to design a bridge. In the process of building and structure, most people will start with the most reassuring and safe materials to build this bridge. However, the lower the risk, the higher the price. In our project, our purpose is to make the most effective bridge at the lowest price. For example, I often choose solid tube rather than hollow tube first because it feels more stable and secure. Another problem is I found that angle is also a problem, if you don’t place the material at the right angle, even if it looks very similar to the right one, it will fall over. When it comes to lowering prices, I can only try every single part of my bridge. Retesting, retesting and retesting. To determine which tube is availible to reduce its price without having the negative results, that might make the entire bridge loose. Sometimes I will ask my friends to help me take a look, seeks fro some useful suggestions and inquire them to teach me their methods or ways to reduce money expenses. But for the angle problem, I can only continue to attempt and try adopting each various ways.

The above is the most highlighted problems I’ve encountered. I think lowering the price is the most difficult and the most struggling issue that needs to be overcome. As for my solution, I also have learned some precoious lessons from it. The most treasured lesson I learned from the project significantly is don’t be afraid to ask questions. If I had not mustered up the courage to ask my classmates or teachers, I would have been stuck in the same place, unable to move forward and carry on. When you’re learning something new, don’t hesitate to ask any questions, questions are like keys that unlock understanding. They help you explore and find answers. So, if something’s unclear, just speak! Asking questions is how people grow smarter. So, don’t be shy, and embrace your curiosity, let your questions lead you to knowledges.

In my personal opinion, I think the most outstanding and commendable part in this project was I was able to reduce the price of a bridge that cost more than 3 million to 200. Although my bridge isn’t not very extraordinary compared with others which some of theirs only cost more than 1 million, I’m still very proud of myself. Since at least I have the courage to try, and trying is better than not trying. I’ve overcome my own difficulties and successfully took the next step. It’s vital to try everything and keep trying until you reach your requirements. Every attempt brings you closer to your goal. Don’t let setbacks drag you down; use them as lessons to learn and grow.

Building online bridges becomes an inspiring journey filled with discovery. I was fascinated in the world of engineering, uncovering the complexities of problem solving and design. Examples like tension and compression. Through this experience, I gained a deeper understanding of bridge construction. The experience also makes me appreciate the hard work of real engineers. They are not only burdened by simple program applications on computers, but also challenged by geographical difficulties in reality. As I see every bridge now, it seems that there’s a bunch of thousands of constructors in front of my eye. Reviewing through all the result and process of this bridge designing project. I have spotted several areas where enhancement could be needed. Recalling that the mission of the project is to make a bridge with the most least profit. After comparing my bridge to the others, I figured out my bridge is slightly a bit taller, which represent I have spend more cost on every single material. Since its overall length of each tube is longer. I think here’s a major part which I can make some improvements on that. A bridge don’t need to be long in length to work the most crucial part is focused on its strength and test result.

Building the online bridge taught me a lot, I learned about load distribution, material kinds, and overcoming setbacks were key lessons learned. Generally, this experience was truly profound, shaping my understanding of engineering and also my ways to deal with the challenges in further life.

My Bridge Comparison

Went over through every single one of bridge type, although generally I think they’re all good choices for building bridges. Some are easy and simple, in contrast, some are difficult, sophisticated. What caught my eye the most was the TRUSS bridge. You may questioned WHY? Beam bridge stand for the most plain and not costly, while cable-stayed represented the most skillful and complex. But why truss? Let’s think in this way, beam bridge can either be the most easy, or the most troublesome. Though there’s only a few steps to finish it, however, the few can be quite difficult to accomplish. Lesser the steps are, more the risks. If you got one mistake during the process, it’s way harder to figure out what’s wrong. Thus, you will have to redo it again. It’s easy to say the another one, which is cable-stayed. Cable-stayed, in contrast, requires lots of steps, and moreover materials. But here’s the point of assignment, the less the materials, higher score you will be. More materials will require more cost, so I would definitely not choose that one. Truss bridge is kind of in the middle of both requirements and acquired both benefits, so it made a great choice for me.

A truss bridge is a type of bridge that has a support structure, form by connected elements arranged in triangle shapes. It’s often a common and moreover a sufficient choice for reaching long distances. The triangles contributes its role by providing stability and force to hold weights.

Observing several times of my testing animation, there’re always some blue and red marks appeared on my design. At first, I thought the marks indicate the stable level of which material. However, after being hinted my teacher, I realized it’s the shown of tension and compression. The darker the color is, the more the tension and compression is on your bridge. Often, the bottom bracket has the most tension pull than other parts of the bridge. And the top bracket usually accquired the most compression throughout the design. Since the load was placed, the bottom contained more force to pull it down, in comparision, so is the top. The difference is, upper part is longer than downward. The shorter the steel, the more it will be strain.

Here’s an image showing my result, the total cost I spent is 389,348 dollar. Even though it’s a bit more than I have expected, but that’s the point of trying, and that will become my future task to accomplish and overcome.

From my experience I have undergo, we can reflect the hard work that real engineers are doing when it comes to building a bridge. In real life, engineers must think about some real conditions, such as terrains and weathers, these will seriously impact the design. They must also consider a bridge that can withstand all materials types of cars. There are many brands of cars in the world, unlike online where we only have one exact truck that appears in every test. Building a truss bridge model online was a absolute challenging experience. Using digital tools, I’ve acknowledged some abilities to design and construct bridges online. Overcoming troubles and obstacles like structure issues and price management, we learned about engineering and bridge making skills. Despite it’s virtual, it was an amazing educational lesson of innovation.

Little Known Scientific Facts

Long time no see guys, we are back again into the studies of amusing facts. Recalling our last blog, we talk about online modifiers. Thus, let us continue about this topic. Well, of course, by introducing another fascinating context.

Guess what are we discussing today, it’s SCIENCE!!

First, always start with a question. Where do you think oxygen mainly comes from? Trees, plants you may think. Though, do you ever think oxygen and ocean are related? Yes, more than half of the air which we breath in every second for cellular respiration is from the ocean.

Their relationship all started from 4.5 billion years ago, when the Earth was formed, it was a heated, blazing planet. Volcano created oxygen and hydrogen, these two molecules combined together, forming the water. As the temperature chilled, rain began, rainfall settled in lower areas, creating the first ocean. These two factors formed our first living Earth, and the bind between these two began inseparable.

Due to statistics, 50-80 percent of oxygen are from oceans. Mostly from marine plants, such as algae, seaweed, and some bacteria can do photosynthesize.

Looking back on the online modifiers, these handy gadget assist me a lot in differnt eras of this post. Thanks “filetype” the most, and this is how it helps..

If you just type in “Earth’s oxygen is produced by ocean” then your result are varies but how do we know it is reliable or not? By using the modifiers, I typed “filetype:pdf. Which is show up some trustworthy pages, Or you can type in “site” It will give you result from some specific websites, which is mostly trustworthy.

Now, after you got a trusty website, it’s time to start your own blog.

Modifiers online

Still working on typing certain keywords to search Google? Or even way complicated, typing a whole complete sentence of question which cost you 10 seconds in minimum. Examples similar to “Article contain the quote ###” or “Powerpoints about electric energy”

Well, lucky for you. Here are the shortcuts which you can take without risking, what I mean “risk” is something like being invaded by hackers, computer viruses or other kinds of stuffs.

These are the “assistants” which make your life more convenient, say HOORAY to the SEARCH OPERATORS or we called it modifiers too. Whenever, the words are so expansive for looking up, just shout out “MODIFIERS” in your search. Then, in less than a second, they will serve you by narrow it down.

Here are some of my suggestions..

I personally highly recommend this operator to all the teachers, which is “”. These tiny quotation marks are the cheating examiners, why I called that, it’s based on how it’s function. If you quote any kinds of information in it, those tinys help you search for results that mention the word or phrase which you put in. You may wonder why this modifier benefits me as a student, cause’ it proves that my assignments didn’t contain any copies from either webs or AI.

The next one is the MAP, as learning is our main priority right now, I believe that one of the subjects which each of you must have is social studies. If that’s so, then the MAP operator, will become your best friend. It functions by forcing map to appear to your screen at anytime, no matter when you request.

And of course, one of can’t be forgotten, the one which has an immense presence. Let’s welcome the |! Yeah, that’s it. It may seems simple, however it definitely has massive impact. This help you find for results connected to X or Y. Examples like: Disney| Animations. Once you press enter, the answers will be out.

In addition, there’s also the extraordinary IN. Which it did numerous of remarkable works, since it was used for the first time. Same as me, if you’re a student. You absolutely need its help. Or there’s a hint, if you major in mathematics; you certainly used it before. Pop quiz, how many centimeters are in a meter? Surely, it’s 100 cm. But what if I tell you, next time you’re on this kind of question; you don’t have to calculate in your mind. Yes, IN is here to assist you by convert one unit to another. Later on, if your friend is struggling on a large unit, ask him to use the operator IN.

Finally, last and not least; the BEFORE. I think you should already know what I’m to talk about. By its definition, the before here simply means to be former from a certain date. But what is former from a certain date, sites or files hold the key. With BEFORE, you will be able to find infinite of informations which you want before a certain date. Suppose I typed in Disney animation before 2000s, and enter. BOOM, the relatable answers are now in my hand.

The above are some of my recommendations. In general, I think these modifiers are very useful, handy and of course effective to my life. Being a modern student, I think we should all have the awareness of the usage of high-tech devices. Include some of its shortcuts. To say this easier, gaining knowledges are essential to us right now. Learn it, absorb it, just in case they can be used in an emergency.

“Did you know??”

About 7.88 billion are in the world today, however approximately 5.2 billion are using internet right now!! 66 percent of the world, WOAH!! It’s over an half of our population. Let me guess what are you doing right now? Watching interesting videos on Youtube? Or either being active on social medias? Or perhaps listening your favorite music lists on Spotify. Internet has made a revolution to the whole world, always changing and none stop.

Logging into Youtube for entertainment, news and teaching videos? You’re not alone, there’re thousands of people are also online with you, did you know roughly 720,000 hours of videos were uploaded on Youtube each day. By the way, I believe during the COVID, everyone must have used Zoom meetings for online classes. Zoom itself has 3.3 trillion meeting per a year, a lot of extensive functions; high resolution for screen sharing and other offers for free users. Most used web conferencing platform in the whole world. What else you will do after back home? Instagram, I guess? An app which has high quality content display, a great influencer and 1.6 billion users active per month. I speculated you’re thinking the same as me.

Social Media: how to use it safely - NCSC.GOV.UK

The video sure did astonished me. Even though, I always knew internet is our majority and a huge impact in our world now. But what shocked me was I never thought it could be so much that over half of our population are now using and on Internet.

This video really clearly emphasizes its point. Indeed, internet is a thing that’s constantly changing in the world. Different stuffs are being created year by year. Perhaps as I write and post this article, a new website or app is already laurching out to enter our world. Bringing us another great changes.

Why Every Website Should Start With A Coming Soon Page

I think everyone should be checking out this video. Cause’ this video tells us about the world which’s changing at every moment. It also gives people more understanding of the world and its varies.

How SEARCH works??

(65) How Search Works – YouTube

“My head is now exploding!! Why I can’t understand how the process works? Okay, I’m really getting confuse right now.”

“Having problem? Try me, I’m a quick and accurate searcher. GOOGLE, the expert of grabbling, never doubt me.”

“Woah, you’re truely an information hunter. It’s about less than a second!!”

“I told you, never doubt me.”

“BUT, how? Can you explain to me.”

“Well, it will be a LONGGG process. You see..”

Google had already collect all the the information, or answers responding to questions which you might ask. It did it by using the SPIDERS. When you start searching a website, spider switches on to digging mode. So this is how the things work. Spiders starts getting into some of the webs and the webs lead it into other webs and on and on and on till you get a tons of different kinds of pages which may help you.

What are the differences between web spiders and web crawlers? - Quora

To get the documents users actually want, Google does this by asking questions. Finding similar titles, docs include your keywords; or synonyms. And, of course, quality. It’s often determined by its rate, by looking at its outside links. At last, they combine all of these information and send you back your search results. The time it takes is about half a second after you press enter.

This video taught me a better understanding about Google and how it’s functions. What makes me realize the most is at the moment when you pressed enter, in less than a second your confusions are easily solved. However, behind your answer are inventions that many workers have made day after day. Making you do the impossible in a short of time.

The video truely convey its messages very clearly. Not containing complex vocabularies. Instead, turning the hardest explanation into the simple and understandable languages.

The world’s current economic relies on high techs. Since the invention of open AI, this has been confirmed again and again. In my perspective, I think in the future our society will be more progressive to technology and it may replace the entire world. Might not just Google, but also many other kinds of webs. In conclusion, I think future careers will continue to be high-techs. People who study technology will also be valued more by the world, and might be better to get employed; I guess.

Artificial intelligence revolution happening now | Daily Sabah

I believe everyone hopes to find a good job in the future, so hurry up and watch this video. Recognize the influence and changes of the Internet as early as possible and understand clearly to the future direction of the world.

How does INTERNET work?:-)

  • ping: time that takin to destination. 🙂
  • latency: time takes a data packet to travel from one designation point to another.(delayed) 🙂
  • DNS: domain name server.(ex: https://www.youtube.com/)
  • I.P. Address: series of location number(ex:192.158.1.38)
  • packets: carry the data and contains the messages. Data send over internet, divided to packets.
  • protocols (TCP/IP) etc…. : set of network’s rules for sending data, so it can arrive at the correct address.
  • HTTPS: thing that secures communication between user and wed.
  • Data Center: place where data were collect, your video stored inside. 🙂
  • LAN: networks lies in a particular area, the device that’s in that area will connect it.(local network)
  • WAN: networks lies in different places, all the LAN connect to it.(wide network)

!!!Image for better understanding of WAN and LAN!!!

The DATA CENTER, PING, LATENCY, PACKETS and I.P ADDRESS

First, let’s start with the ”Data center”. This center might be thousands miles from you, but connect to your device and has the video stored inside.

IMAGE OF THE DATA CENTER!!!

It reach your device by using satellites.(Satellites is a process that has the ability to transmit, helps to communication from a device to an another.) Then, a ”ping” is time it cost and took to reach your device. ”Latency”, the meaning is in the word ”late”, in another way we use latency to describe sth has been delayed. In internet, it also has an another meaning it’s the time data packet travel from one designation point to another. Similar as ping:)

The last one of this paragraph, that’s ”Packets”. It carries data and contains the messages. Send over internet, divided to many packets. But how can all these locate your device? They use the ”I.P. address” a thing that seen to be a bunch of codes, however these series of code tells your location. Kind of interesting, isn’t it?

!!!THE MAIN DEVICE OH YOUR HOUSE HAS AN I.P ADDRESS!!!

!!!Image to see how internect works!!!

The DNS, HTTPS, PROTOCOLS and LAN, WAN.

Previous paragraph we talked about the data center and how it connects to your device also the time it takes to transmit things. In this paragraph we’re going to talk about the DNS and networks, or cool thing that security it. Again first thing first, cuz the DNS is the first one so I’m going to talk that first. The full name of ”DNS” is ”domain name server”, (ex: www.google.com) the word domain means ”territory” . In the world of internet, territory is each kind of websites. Early, people need to memorize a bunch of codes. After DNS is created we just need to type the web name.

how DNS works, see this image.

Remember I said I’m going to tell sth called cool security guard, it actual name called ”HTTPS”. HTTPS secures the comunication of the user(us) and the web. Maybe you didn’t notice, it has been in our daily life all the time. Example, using my Edublogs account, you can see the link always put ”https” in the first place.

There are rules everywhere, even on the internet. And of course there will be someone to watch us to see if we break the rules. Let’s welcome ”protocols”, this thingy is the network’s rules for sending data.

Last but not least, here come the gods to rule the world. (trust me, we rely on them every single hour.)The LAN and WAN!!! To say this simple it’s network. LAN stand for local network, means network in one certain place.(ex: your home, the main network that the device in your house connect.) And here comes WAN, stand for wide network. The place where all certain places’ network were connected, it’s way bigger than LAN.

!!! IMAGE FOR LAN AND WAN IS AT THE TOP OF THIS READING!!!

The end, bye~~~ (my throat is so dry, I have been talking for ten mins.)
